20 Norwood Avenue
Historic Elmwood Village Home
Norwood Avenue runs parallel to Elmwood Avenue and is one of the most beautiful streets in the city in terms of residential architecture. A hot bed for beautiful gardens, old homes, and walkable streets; both Norwood Avenue and Ashland Avenue are considered by many to be the heart of the Elmwood Village.
This home in particular, 20 Norwood Avenue, is one that has been so perfectly preserved that it deserves to be in a magazine. Built in 1890, this beauty boasts a castle-like interior full of hardwood features, coffered ceilings, stone archways, and stained glass. The backyard is a shady oasis with several fountains, statues, huge trees, and a beautifully designed garden.
Many of the Tudor-style features of the home were acquired from the John Albright Estate, an E. B. Green-designed residence on West Ferry Street which was demolished in 1966, and incorporated into this home by the previous owner in the late 1960’s. At just over 3000 square feet without including the impressive attic space, this home is any architecture lovers dream.
