67 North Street

Our latest Gurney Featured Home is less of a current home and more of a project that could result in some truly incredible living spaces. 67 North Street, located on the corner of North Street and Linwood Avenue, is a church that most Buffalonians would recognize thanks to it’s prime location and stately architecture.

Known as Episcopal Church of the Ascension, this beautiful church was built in 1872 by architect Gordon W. Lloyd. It’s in excellent shape in terms of the original stonework, glasswork, and general architectural details. There’s over 21,000 square feet of usable interior space and it sits on a half acre lot. The potential is really there for something great to happen.

The main sanctuary totals 5,700 square feet and features hardwood floors throughout the whole area. It also boasts a modified pointed Gothic ceiling, lancet windows lining the walls, a lofted gallery to the rear where an organist would usually sit, and a raised ornate wooden chancel at the front. It’s got everything you image a church from the late 1800’s would have.

The back portion of the property is 6,080 square feet and includes a theater room with stage, a small kitchen with dining area, plus multiple bathrooms and offices. Upstairs is the main office area with three to four separate offices depending oh how they would be divided, plus additional bathrooms.

The garden level totals 9,488 square feet with a partially finished area that is currently being used as rehearsal room and storage for a theatre company that calls the church home. The front half is finished congregating space complete with full commercial kitchen, bathrooms and office. Most of this area could easily become living spaces.
