Olmsted Parkways - Winter Edition

Winter in Buffalo is a terrifying thought to some people. Snow birds flee to warmer climates and the number of tourists takes a dive. For us 365-days-a-year Buffalonians though, we understand the beauty that exists in our City during winter. Yes, it’s cold. But damn if it isn’t beautiful! The mornings after a snow storm are some of the most charming settings imaginable. The nights when the snow is falling softly under street lamps is something straight out of a movie. The allure of Buffalo’s winter is present throughout it’s Parkways and with this post, we’ll continue our series on Buffalo’s Olmsted Parkways.

Frederick Law Olmsted designed New York City’s Central Park, the Biltmore Estate, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, and Buffalo’s entire Olmsted Park System. It’s very likely that if you grew up in Buffalo, you at least know his name. Please consider subscribing and enjoy the following galleries from Bidwell, Chapin, and Lincoln Parkways. Winter edition.

Bidwell Parkway

Bidwell Parkway runs from Colonial Circle to Soliders Circle. It’s also home to the Elmwood Village Farmers Market every Saturday from Spring to Fall. In the winter, it becomes a long stretch for cross-country skiers to get out and active, a open area to build a snowman, and a place to have your children, dog children included, play in the snow.

Chapin Parkway

Chapin Parkway runs from Soldiers Circle to Gates Circle and is the widest of the 3.

Lincoln Parkway

Lincoln Parkway starts at Soldiers Circle and ends at Delaware Park’s Hoyt Lake.
